Craft show

Before I completely forget, I wanted to tell you about the craft show I did at the end of April. It was my first.

I've been making and selling jewelry for about 3 years now, toying with the idea of opening an Etsy shop but never doing it. I heard about this sale and realized it was the perfect opportunity to try it out.

I'm not a complete newbie - I helped my mom for years with her shows (big trade shows like the Ottawa Wedding Show and the Ski Show) - and I've been to a lot of craft sales. I know the money and time and prep involved so the fact that this show was close to home, only 3 hours long, and cheap to get a table were all good things. I took a leap and signed up!

The Spring Sale was a fundraiser by a woman in my neighbourhood held at the community center on a Saturday afternoon. Most of the stuff I make is custom so I came up with some new pieces that I could make ahead of time. I borrowed some jewelry displays and made the best of it.

It was one of the first beautiful days and not a lot of people came by. I did sell a few pieces, but definitely didn't make back my costs. That's okay because it was a learning experience, the money went to charity, and I got to hang out with SH who came to keep me company. J and the kids dropped by too.

I do most of my selling through my Facebook page which is free. And I'm still toying with the idea of an Etsy shop. After the show I brought my stuff into work and sold a bunch more. See? Worth it!
