An update

I feel like I owe you an update after my last post. I was feeling overwhelmed and down and needed to get it out. I also needed to make some changes, to do something positive for myself. I feel like I'm in a better place now.

Part of the reason I was so tired: my full bed.


Last Friday night we picked J up from the airport. We were all excited to have him home and things quickly went back to normal: the kids are going to bed at a good time, I have time to myself in the evenings, there are empty yogurt containers in the sink all the time, and shoes everywhere. We co-parented on the weekend, splitting the duties and handling drop offs and pick ups together, getting kids to their activities, all while getting in some good family time too.

I even snuck in a nap, making up for all the lost sleep over the past two weeks.

Part of feeling better also has to do with taking action. I saw my doctor who gave me a prescription for physio so I could get my shoulder checked out. I met with a great physio who explained the pain (the pain in my shoulder is actually referred pain from the muscles deep in my shoulder) and gave me exercises to do at home. Taking charge and actively doing something to help with the pain is an incredible feeling.

Setting alarms on my phone helped me get those exercises done three times a day and I've noticed less pain in my shoulder and overall feel stronger.

On top of my exercises, I've been doing yoga practice at home every day. I found a really good video series on You Tube called Yoga with Adriene. It's a 30-day series that has been amazing. Adriene is super sweet and the videos are easy and gentle, which is what I needed at this time. I'm hoping to build a habit, to practice yoga every day. I find when I do, I am much more positive about my body and happier overall.

This happiness carries me through when a sweet little dancer in Little K's class asks if I have a baby in my belly. No dear, just some fat. No tears, don't worry.

This week has been a wild ride with Little K's first dance recital which included a dress rehearsal Saturday, a technical rehearsal Monday, and recitals Tuesday night and last night. As soon as I can coax my phone to upload the pictures to my computer, I will share a post about the whole experience. I never thought I'd be a dance mom, but here I am, and I am SO proud of my little girl. But more on that later.

Dance is done and Little K's gymnastics wraps up next week. Little J's karate switches over to summer hours soon. There are three weeks left of school. I have some posts to write up and work to do, but change is in the air. It's also quite humid, but I'm breathing a little lighter today.

  1. I'm so glad you're feeling better. Re: the baby belly -- I've gotten that too, from kids *and* parents. I tell them I've got tummy troubles (which I do), but yeah, there's some flab there too. What can you do? Nothing happens overnight, but little by little you'll feel better and better. I'm glad you've found a few things that help.
