Off to Toronto!

Isn't September crazy? School starting really threw us into action with new routines and early mornings and lunches to be made. I feel like we're settling into our new normal and this normal includes 2 kids in school for the first time. I'm still reeling from all the free time I have during the day. I'm not quite sure what to do with myself.

I've been keeping busy though - meetings, appointments, cleaning, reading, writing and even some relaxing. And believe me the day flies by and my alarm to pick up the kids is going off before I know it.

Like my approach to my spare time, my thoughts are all over the place. I feel a little ADD currently and so that's what you're getting today, writing what's on my mind when I should be packing.

Packing? That's right, I'm going to Toronto tomorrow when J gets home from work. One of my business partners and I signed up for a postpartum doula course that's taking place ALL DAY Saturday. Caps on all day because we still have to drive home after the training. It's going to be a long and exhausting day but I'm really looking forward to it.. now that we have somewhere to stay Friday night. Apparently not having a hotel room booked was stressing me out because I sighed the loudest sigh of relief when I finally did that.

I read a book back in the spring and submitted a review to a doula magazine (one for members of DONA). The magazine just came out and I've been obsessively checking the mail, but it hasn't come yet. I can't wait to see my words in print with my picture and website. This magazine goes out to hundreds (thousands maybe) of doulas all over the world!

I'm on call this week but we don't have a lot of clients due right now. Being on call like this isn't as high stress as when you have clients ready to go any day. I've done 5 births in the past 4 months, which is way more than I'm used to. I love going and getting the experience but having a chill on call week is nice too. And I know November is going to be busy so I'm enjoying this little break.

*********

Not that I'm not working. We have a lot of events coming up and there are things that have to get done for those, plus blog posts to be written and resources to be gathered. It's insane how busy doula work can be.

*********

And emotional. There is something at every birth that gets me. I need time to think about it and then time to talk about it. Poor J gets an earful whenever I get home from a birth. And then my partners help with the processing because there is almost always processing to be done. Birth isn't just an event for the woman having a baby.. everyone in the room is affected too.

My big plan this fall is to be more social. A few friends and I have decided to try and get together on Friday evenings. When you go out Friday night, the weekend feels longer. Don't believe me, try it! I've been out the last 2 Fridays (the first was to paint a mug, the next was to pick it up). Tomorrow I'll be in the car, but the next week I'm hoping to get out again. So nice.

Happy mug.

My other plans for fall include going through the entire house. I started last week by going through my bedroom - vacuuming, organizing, and tidying - and tackled the hall, stairs, front hall and powder room yesterday. The problem with this kind of cleaning is that it's hardly noticeable. I KNOW I vacuumed up a metric ton of dust but you can't tell. I'm also hoping to get us more organized and sell old toys and clothes.

*********

Speaking of clothes.. none of my capris fit. I haven't tried on any of my pants yet, but I'm worried. Losing weight is nice, but I hate shopping. And there's a teeny part of me that is worried about gaining back the weight I lost (though, so far so good!) and having to go shopping AGAIN. That just isn't happening so I'm putting it off. So if you see my pants hanging off my body just look away.

The cutest thing I saw this week was Little K all dressed up for her first ballet class. She's so flippin adorable. And then Little J this morning was pouring it on. I can't get over these two.

Time to pack. Have a great weekend and be sure to check back next week because I was just contacted by Tay River AQUA and just *might* have a set of passes to give away. Shh!
