A fitness update and a challenge win!

Happy September! Where did August go? Back in July I told you that I was doing a fitness challenge (go ahead and read that post first if you'd like), the Summer Body in 60 Transformation Challenge by Muscle Bound Fitness. Well those 60 days are up and guess what? I won!

I wanted to give you a quick update on how it went and show you my before and after pictures.

Quick rundown:

- Sophie, our trainer, set us all up with goals for protein, carbs and fat intake, and we had to track everything we ate and drank with the intention of meeting the goals. My calories were basically cut in half at first. I was hungry but never hangry.

- On top of tracking our food, we had to exercise 3-6 times a week. I'll be honest and say that 3 times a week was often a challenge for me.

- Every week we weighed ourselves and had our food logs reviewed. If we did a good job at meeting out goals we got an increase. The overall goal is to get to a sustainable level of food intake while still burning fat and building muscle.

Here is my progress after 4 weeks:

4 weeks.

The difference is amazing and was very motivating to keep going.

- As the days went on, I was doing better and better.. both in what I was eating and my exercising. Things that were hard at first were getting easier. I was getting leaner and stronger. I was getting more confident.

- During the challenge, I learned so much about food and how to fuel my body. I am able to make better choices now, even when I'm out and about.

Here are my before and after pictures:

My before and after.

I am 5'7" and I went from 162 pounds to 149 pounds. The differences are obvious and those "after" pictures were much easier to take than the "before" ones. I actually had a good cry the night we took those.

We did our last weigh in August 15th and then Sophie announced that I had won the challenge! I won three months of nutritional counseling so I am still tracking everything I eat and doing weekly weigh ins. It's good to keep me on track, because in the week between the challenge ending and my counseling starting, I went a little crazy. I treated myself to cheesecake and hardly exercised. You know what? I didn't feel so hot.

Now that I'm back on board, though giving myself a little more wiggle room than during the challenge, I'm happy. I feel strong and happy. But I need to go shopping: I need new shorts and capris because mine are so baggy that they look weird.
