Doula Retreat

The calming view for the weekend.

It's the last day of school! I'm not sure whether to be excited and happy or be a little worried about keeping both kids entertained for the next two months. On one hand: no more lunches to pack and bus stops to get to on time. On the other: two kids who fight home with me all summer.

While I mentally prepare myself, I wanted to remember the calm, serene weekend I had earlier this month. It was the annual Association of Ontario Doulas (formerly DoulaCARE) retreat. This was my third year attending and the best one yet!

There were only 4 of us in the end: me, my two partners, and C. We had nothing planned other than our meals. It was so relaxing. We spent hours on the dock just chatting. I managed to get a decent sunburn (wear sunscreen, kids!)

It's so nice to get away, even for just one day. I really like being able to swear and drink and not worry about anyone else (there wasn't a lot of swearing or drinking really, but you know what I mean).

It's funny though, my first retreat two years ago was a big learning experience. I soaked it all in and came home with my head packed with new information and stories. Last year I learned a bit and got a lot out of just being around other, more experienced doulas. This year was more a getaway with friends. I still learn from these ladies and their experience, but I'm in a different place. I've grown in the past two years.

I took some time to reflect on my journey (from just me to Tiny Feet Doula Services, to National Capital Doulas - that's a new website!) and the things I've seen and done. I've come a long way on my doula journey and I'm so excited for what's to come!
