I hope you all had a great New Year's Eve. I had a predictably normal night: dinner, kids to bed, tv and internetting. I did stay up until midnight and gave J a kiss to mark the new year, but other than that it was just like any other night. And somehow today feels new and fresh even though it was just like most of my days. At least this year has started out comfortably.
I made some goals for 2013 and love that I accomplished so many of them without really keeping them in my mind, at least not consciously working toward them. When your goals are really important to you, you just do what you have to do. I like that, but I also like to challenge myself. I want to be better: a better me, a better mother, a better friend. I want to be more and play more. I want to really enjoy my life.
I like the idea of goals and I like lists so, like last year, I've broken my goals into categories.
Last year I challenged myself to read 25 books. I read 46 so this year I'm upping it to 50. I'm still using Goodreads to track my books but I've also signed up for the 50 Book Pledge through The Savvy Reader. I devoured a book today so I'm already 1/50th of the way to my goal.
Over the past year what I learned about myself is that I need to write. I get this panicky feeling when I haven't written in a while, like I need to search for what I'm missing. I need to write on this blog and I want to continue writing for Ottawa Mommy Club and Kids in the Capital, potentially another local site, and maybe do some guest posts. You can check out all my writing elsewhere: Here and There.
My first year as a birth doula was incredible and I have big plans to keep growing my business, things like getting more clients and applying for certification. This involves more marketing, lots of reading and writing, attending a childbirth education class, and creating a resource list.
I'm quite pleased with how this little space has grown over the past year. I've worked with some really amazing and generous companies and hope to continue to do so this year. This will always be my piece of the internet, where I can share what I want to share, but I am working towards some great partnerships and love the possibilities opening up. I'd like to attend the BConnected conference in April and Social Capital Ottawa in June. And I'm aiming to comment more on the posts I like. I read so many blogs but hardly ever comment and I know how nice it is to know someone is reading.
I need to move more so I'm challenging myself with some fitness goals. I'd like to run at least two races this year (I've already signed up for a 5K in April and hope to do the South Ottawa Race Day again in September) and I'm thinking of working towards a mileage goal for the year. Greta from GFunkified had a 500 mile goal last year and totally outdid herself - what an inspiration! I've started doing squats and hope to incorporate some other exercises into my day and get to yoga more. I'm working on some concrete goals, but for now I'll just say that I want to do more.
Tell me, are you making goals or resolutions this year? Do you have three words instead? Anything?
