I went back and forth about what to publish today. I wasn't sure I should do a wrap up post for the year, but as the hours pass by and we get closer and closer to the new year, I just want to write. I want to go back and look at what I've done this year and see what I can change to make next year better. I made some goals for the year back in January and I've done well working toward them, even if they weren't on my mind the whole year.
It's interesting to see where we were and how far we've come and it's nice to have a look back on all the fun things we did. Right now I'm taking a stroll down memory lane and reliving my blog posts, which don't cover everything I did, but do a pretty good job of summing up my year.
In JANUARY J and I left the kids and went snowboarding before Little J started preschool. J was away for the week of my birthday but we celebrated all the same. It's always fun turning a year older.
FEBRUARY was a big month for Little K who got a big girl bed and turned 2. I did a birthday questionnaire with her and loved her answers. We went to Little Ray's Reptile Zoo and the Museum of Nature for Dino Idol.
MARCH was a big month for going out. J and I went snowboarding and then to the spa, the kids and I went to Play Time Cafe, and we wore green for St. Patrick's Day. This post gives a nice view of our days. We got together with a bunch of people I met through a September 2009 birth club and the kids had a great time together. I celebrated World Doula Week and launched my doula website.
APRIL is the month I started running again and we celebrated Easter. We went to the Classic and Custom Car Show and saw the Batmobile. I had my first doula client and missed the race I was training for.
MAY of course was Mother's Day and I definitely felt the love. I spent a week talking about cloth diapering, which we're now done with. We had a nice May long weekend, spent some time at the Agriculture Museum for the sheep shearing festival and went to the train museum.
JUNE was a busy month. I went to the Social Capital Ottawa (SoCap conference) and needed to just write and I gave away a PlasmaCar. The kids ran their first race aka the Cookie Race and we went to see the Mr. Potato Head Exhibit at the Children's Museum. We celebrated Father's Day and Little J's last day of preschool. The kids loved their new bikes and we all had fun for our first cottage weekend of the year. We saw Thomas and Friends at the mall and celebrated Little A's 4th birthday.
A lot of JULY was spent offline enjoying the summer. We did some kite flying, celebrated Canada Day at the cottage, and a entire week of summer vacation at the cottage. J and I celebrated 9 years of marriage by going to a Weezer concert by ourselves.
The big excitement for the kids in AUGUST was a train ride at the train museum. We also took a trip to the farm, went to the Shrine Circus, went to the open house at Calabogie Motorsports. We celebrated Little E's 1st birthday. It was also the month for World Breastfeeding Week, A Taste of Manotick, and my family's annual cottage party.
SEPTEMBER was one of the busiest months and by far the most stressful for me, but it started out with the super fun Colour Run. Then, in the span of a few days, we celebrated Little J's birthday, his first day of school, my brother's wedding, which included our Toronto trip. We went to the Ontario Science Center and Little Ray's. And here's Little J's birthday questionnaire.
In OCTOBER I finally got to run a 5K at the South Ottawa Race Day. I had my 2nd doula client and wrote a bit about Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. I took the kids to the butterfly show and to see the frogs exhibit at the Museum of Nature. We celebrated Thanksgiving with family and friends and had a good Halloween with Spiderman and a giraffe.
I did National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo) again this NOVEMBER and blogged everyday. We had fun in the leaves and swimming lessons started. I had a hard time when Little J fell off the platform and into the water. I ran my first virtual 5K and we had our first snow of the year and then a big dump. We recovered (most of) our dining room chairs and they look so much better.
The days of DECEMBER leading up to Christmas were full of advent activities including a lot of Christmas crafts, parties, and fun. J was away for a week so I painted the bathroom. I had my 3rd and 4th doula clients. We had a fun slumber party with friends and my heart almost burst watching Little J's Christmas concert. Then it was all about Christmas - dinners, friends, family, presents, fun.
And now it's practically 2014. So many things are on my mind.. goals and books and plans. But while I'm being retrospective, I have to say that 2013 was a good year. We did lots of fun things, I got to build and grow my doula business, and I met a lot of great people along the way. We saw our friends and our families a lot and spent lots of time just the 4 of us. I read lots and wrote lots and really just need to work on getting more exercise. Not bad. See ya, 2013!
Happy New Year!
