Recovering our dining room chairs

New and old.
Our dining room table and chairs are from IKEA. The table is light wood, very clean lines, and the selling point, the extra leaves are stored in the table. The chairs are basic light wood with dark blue seats.

Some of the seats have faded over time and now most of them are covered in stains and mushed in playdoh. Thank you, children. It was time to do something about them.

A few weeks ago I asked around about fabric stores in town and got a good recommendation for Rockland Textiles. It was a rainy weekend afternoon and I planned on having a little me time but of course both kids insisted on coming.

Spot the kids!

They were actually really good in the store, which was a maze of rooms full of rolls of fabric, swatches hanging from rods, decorative (read: breakable) items, and staff who were all occupied with other customers. The saving grace was a little area with a toy kitchen and some books and cars. I left the kids there and went in search of something that would make sense for our chairs.

I was looking for something wipeable and came up with a chocolate brown vinyl. It was about $18/m and I needed 2 meters for all 6 chairs. Little J was a little miffed I didn't go with the bright pink he wanted but I just didn't think I could handle a colour like that on our chairs for the next bunch of years (hopefully).

I like the brown.

J was a rockstar and removed all the staples from the seats of 3 of the chairs and recovered them with the new fabric. The kids helped with the hammering.

Someone said I should hire out this crew.

It's been a couple weeks and we still have three newly covered chairs and 3 playdoh-stained blue ones, but I don't mind. It'll happen and J's hands definitely needed a break from all that staple-ripping. Me? I have wimpy hands, hands that wipe snotty noses and do dishes. And type.

If you had to be trapped inside a movie for 5 days, which movie would you pick?
This question baffles me. Of course I'm drawing a complete blank.

Name five things inside your refrigerator right now and how you feel about them.
We have milk, margarine, yogurt, cheese, eggs, and orange juice. Those are the things I take out every morning for breakfast.

What is your favourite hour of the day?
9-10pm. The kids are finally in bed and asleep (most nights!) and I get to do what I want to do before I get too tired.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I'd say a night owl, but I'm up nowhere near as late now as I was years ago. Having kids will do that to a person.

If you could quit one bad habit instantly without difficulty, which would it be?
Eating junk.
