25 Days of Christmas: Family activities for December

Our advent tree.

Last year I bought a wooden Christmas tree advent calendar. J and I would sneakily slip in two chocolate treats that the kids would have after dinner. It was fun and the kids loved it.

This year, after reading Rebecca's post about a different kind of advent calendar, we'll be switching things up. She makes a list of 24 activities to do with her family, one for each day of December leading up to Christmas. How fun is that? You can read her post here: A Little Bit of Momsense's 25 Days of Christmas.

I brainstormed and made us a list. Some of these activities are quick and simple while some require planning. I think it's a good mix.

December 1 - Take Christmas card picture (weekend)
December 2 - Write a letter to Santa (J away)
December 3 - Read Christmas books (J away)
December 4 - Listen to Christmas CD (J away)
December 5 - Decorate back door (J away)
December 6 - Christmas tree craft (J away)
December 7 - Santa Claus parade* (weekend)
December 8 - Put up and decorate tree (weekend)
December 9 - Make paper chain garland
December 10 - Go see Santa at the mall
December 11 - Watch Rudolph
December 12 - Make cards for teachers/friends
December 13 - Watch Frosty the Snowman
December 14 - Break out Christmas colouring books (weekend)
December 15 - Make candy cane reindeer (weekend)
December 16 - Watch Lanny and Wayne
December 17 - Make paper snowflakes
December 18 - Salt dough ornaments
December 19 - Watch Charlie Brown Christmas
December 20 - Wrap presents
December 21 - Christmas party* (weekend)
December 22 - Drive around and look at lights (weekend)
December 23 - Sing Christmas carols
December 24 - Open 1 present (the traditional Christmas Eve pjs!)* (J off)
December 25 - Merry Christmas!* (J off)

Most of them I just put on whatever day because I know that I can move things around. I don't think I'm organized enough to get it right the first time!

Do you do any sort of advent calendar? What do you think of this idea?
