October 15th dot com

If you do a search for October 15th you'll come up with pages about pregnancy and infant loss. Today is the worldwide remembrance day for pregnancy and infant loss. It is a day to remember the pregnancies and babies that we've lost, and to support our friends who are going through or who have gone through such a devastating thing. There are probably more of them than you know.

We don't always broadcast loss, especially miscarriages that happen early on. Chances are you didn't even know that person was pregnant. It can be a very isolating and alone time.

I had a miscarriage. It was my first pregnancy and I was excited. We were getting used to the idea of being pregnant after trying for a long time (infertility is another thing people don't often talk about) when the bleeding started. Like so many others, I spent hours in the hospital waiting to see a doctor and have it confirmed. Unfortunately I was left with a big question mark and had to wait for days before we were told for sure that there was no baby.

My blood was taken weekly to monitor the levels of HCG to make sure it was a complete miscarriage. It was and for that I'm thankful.

I went on to have two healthy, full term pregnancies and have two kids, but I still think about my miscarriage. It weighed heavily on my mind during the next pregnancy especially and changed how I look at things. It, and all the other things that have happened, has shaped me and made me become the person I am today. I do not wish that I hadn't had a miscarriage, I accept it as part of me.

If you have suffered a loss, please know that you aren't alone. I hope you find some comfort today.

The october15th.com website is overloaded today but there are other sites with information if you're interested Wikipedia and causes.com. Maybe you want to join the Wave of Light and light a candle at 7pm tonight.
