Little J at 3

Wow, it's about time I got around to posting this. Whew! Little J is three and a half now. Good thing I took notes. This update is all about Little J when he turned THREE last September. Let's just pretend I'm not as far behind as I am.

Little J has become quite affectionate and gives lots of hugs and kisses. He loves reading and is able to recite whole books. His favourite shows include Mickey Mouse, Team Umizoomi, Yo Gabba Gabba and Winnie the Pooh.

At the cottage he was so much better than last year with the sand and the dirt and the water and he loved jumping off the boat into the water. He slept in a room with his sister and did fine on a big boy bed. He loves being around family and especially his cousins (actually J's cousins).

We spent a lot of time this summer outside and Little J loves running jumping, skipping, biking, family bike rides, his Plasma car, the Jeep, climbing, and being pushed on dad's skateboard. He was a big fan of water this summer: the pool, sprinkler and slip n slide. We spent a lot of time out in the backyard with neighbour Little A in the afternoons. He's also quite willing to help his dad in the garden, washing the car, tying up the tree, changing the car tires. Walks and strolls to the park happen whenever the weather is nice and we often take a trip around the pond to look for ducks. With all the time in the sun, Little J is starting to get freckles.

Little J likes to run and even came with me once. He also likes to do yoga with me. He is obsessed with the Olympics and finally mastered the summersault.

Inside we do lots of things like go to the library, playgroups and playdates, indoor playplaces, groceries and Costco and Chapters, and of course over to see his grandparents. A big hit too has been the museums and I'm so glad I bought a membership.

Little J isn't yet out of diapers and we're letting him lead the way to being potty trained.

Little J has done really well learning the ASL signs for the letters of the alphabet as well as some other signs. We've incorporated some songs too and we sign and sing at breakfast and lunch. He's losing some of the fun things he used to say like 'binsent' instead of 'basement' but still calls a slip and slide a "slippery slide".

Some fun things he's said lately:
- to Little K: You're my best friend, you really need a haircut!
- to us: "Guys, I really need a hug!"

Little J's eating is pretty much the same but he now drinks out of a regular cup pretty well and uses utensils. He is obsessed with cake (thank you, birthday) and loves popsicles and freezies.

Little J is pretty good with his sister. He obviously really likes her but she is his little sister so he's mean to her too. He's actually pretty bad with empathy and will run the other way if she gets hurt (and half the time it's because he hit her!) He's very protective of her though when we're out and around strangers.

Little J is just about 32 pounds.  He's wearing size 3T mostly, but some 2T stuff still fits.  He wears size 9 shoes, and size 4 diapers during the day and 5s at night.
