Goals for 2013

Hello 2013!  Nice to see you.  Like most people I'm sure, the new year turns on my brain.  I like to look back at what I did the previous year and then I always take some time to think about what I want to do this year.  I don't like resolutions because I don't like the pressure.  I don't want to fail so instead I make myself goals.  Things to work towards, or improve on, or new things to try, old habits to break.  They're flexible and that's how I like it.

This year I've decided to use categories for my goals.  It's how I've been thinking about them so why not write them out this way too?  Here they are:

Read
I love to read.  I read a lot this past year and want to keep reading new and interesting books.  I'm thinking I might focus on books from Oprah's book club (complete list) because that will get me out of my usual genre and keep things exciting.  I'm going to keep using Goodreads and maybe start using more of the features on the site.  Find me on Goodreads.

Write
I also love to write.  I wouldn't have a blog otherwise.  I want to continue writing here, aiming for 5 posts a week, and also contribute regularly to the Ottawa Mommy Club and Kids in the Capital websites.

Eat
I don't really love to eat and I especially don't love to cook, but I'd love to get better at feeding my family.  This time last year, as I switched over from mat leave to unpaid leave, I started meal planning and still do it.  It saves us time and money.  I'm going to keep up with meal planning, but I'd really like to try different recipes and start enjoying being in the kitchen.  I also need to get better at planning for lunches and switching up what we eat for breakfast.

Work
By work I mean my doula business.  It's still new and fun and exciting and my business is hardly off the ground.  There are many things I need to do to get organized: finish setting up my website, order business cards, write and print out all the paperwork, dedicate a spot in the house.  I need to buy a membership to DONA International and Doula CARE.  I hope to start taking on clients this spring and go from there.

Blogging
Blogging is a hobby but I hope to keep growing this blog and eventually earn some income from it.  This year I hope to do more reviews and giveaways and focus on quality posts so I can continue to use this as my journal, scrapbook, baby book, memory.  I'm working on an editorial calendar, basically post ideas for the entire year, and hope that you'll keep reading.

Parenting
My goals when it comes to my parenting have a lot to do with keeping the kids happy and healthy and growing.  They need structure and healthy food and fun activities.  I want to spend time playing with them, teaching them and less time sitting them in front of the tv, even if it gives me a break during the day.

Me
I want to focus more on me.  Sounds selfish but it's time.  I want to be happy.  I don't know exactly what that means yet but I know it will include doing more - yoga, snowboarding, running.  Figuring out things that make me happy that don't revolve around the kids and doing them.

Tell me, do you make new year's resolutions?  Set yourself some goals?  Keep on keeping on?  I'm curious! Here's to a great year!

  1. Awesome goals Kamerine. I have similar ones I suppose. I want to eat better (I eat way too many "bad" things), I want to really start running again....my plan this year that I am going to make these two changes and then whatever still doesn't fit at the end of a season is going to be given away....no more hoarding for when things are going to fit again. I see this as serving many purposes at once. I want to do a bunch of stuff for me as well....use my "me" time after the kids go to bed more efficiently (scrap, date night, call my family more...take off my eye makeup before bed! lol). I would also like to actually start doing more of the things I pin on pinterest. I play alot with the girls but I would like to start having a bit more "educational" play some of the time too...like teaching Rheagan letters and doing some math with Scotia. I actually have a pretty long list but these are some. One thing that I think will help me is to look at these as the first quarter goals...I do much better if I have a deadline....see what I can do in the first 100 days. Fingers crossed! Terri

  2. Nicely organized and sounds doable! The Heather's picks at Chapters and usually pretty good too. Looking forward to reading more about your goals as you work on them!
