2012 Review

Time marches on, getting closer and closer to 2013.  A stroll down memory lane is in order.  What did I get up to this past year anyway?

JANUARY

In January I switched over from being on maternity leave to being on un-paid leave, a decision that wasn't made lightly.  Baby K turned 11 months old and I celebrated turning 31.   For my birthday, J painted the walls, got and put together all new furniture, and got new bedding for our room.  The blue walls and brown-black furniture looks amazing and is actually one of the things that brings people to my blog the most often.  We also went to the winter festival in the next town over and had a great time exploring the firetrucks, taking a sleigh ride and seeing all sorts of reptiles.  Little J surprised us by touching an enormous snake!

FEBRUARY

In February I tried snowbaording again and had a great time.  It was so nice being out with just J and actually being able to navigate the board down the mountain.   I cannot wait to go again soon.  We took the kids to the Aviation Museum and had a great time there.  We had a little playdate on Valentine's Day and dressed the kids in red and pink.  And of course we celebrated Baby K's first birthday.  My little girl was so spoiled and so cute

MARCH

In March Little J turned 2.5 and graduated from a crib to a big boy bed (his crib converted).  He made me smile by pretending to nurse his bear.   It was this month I realized what I want to be when I grow up: a doula.  It's so exciting and invigorating and scary but so right.  So so right.

APRIL

After almost a year of cloth diapering I wrote up a post about our journey.  Maybe I'll do another one in a few months.  We celebrated Easter this month and I gave up drinking pop.  That was hard.

MAY

In May we built a veggie garden in the back and got bikes and bike seats for family bike rides.  We clocked a lot of hours going through our neighbourhood on those 4 wheels.  May 5th was International Day of the Midwife and I shared my experiences having midwifery care for my pregnancies.  I celebrated my 3rd Mother's Day and having kids who love each other.  I also laced up my running shoes and hit the pavement for the first time in forever.

JUNE

June was a month filled with fun and friends and family.  We spent so much time outside: plasma car races in the driveway, water fun in the backyard, the slip and slide, driving the jeep, skipping.  And of course we celebrated dads everywhere, but most importantly the best father I know: J.

JULY

July started off strong with a trip to the cottage.   We spent a few mornings watching J race the car at autocross.  I even got to ride along with him and try not to puke.  J and I celebrated our 8 year wedding anniversary and I went to an all-day social media conference.  I talked about how I need to take care of myself in order to be an inspiration to my kids.  It's a great reminder: I want them to be as inspired by me as I am of them.  Part of that is keeping in shape so I found a couch-to-5K program to follow and signed up for a race at the end of September.

AUGUST

August was another great summer month.  We spent a week at the cottage with J's family and had a great time.  I wrote about my experiences breastfeeding in honour of World Breastfeeding Week and how I'm proud to be left-handedBaby K turned 18 months and Little J had his first trip to the dentist.  It didn't go well.

SEPTEMBER

Holding on to summer, we went to the cottage for another long weekend.  We celebrated Little J's 3rd birthday (big birthday post), J's 31st birthday and my cousin's wedding.  J and I decided to get serious about giving our house a deep clean/purge/organize and found out we weren't alone with our goals.  I ran my 5K race and did well.  I loved having my family there cheering me on.

OCTOBER

October was the month of outings:  we went to see the butterflies, went to the Manotick Harvest Festival, went to the Agriculture Museum, went to the pumpkin patch.  We celebrated Thanksgiving and surviving a week without J home.  The kids' first swimming lessons ended and we went out for Halloween.  October 15th was Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day and I wrote about my miscarriage.

NOVEMBER

I'm proud I blogged every day in November as part of NaBloPoMo or National Blog Posting Month.  I talked about the tv shows I watch, pets I've had over the years, toys my kids like, our Christmas tradition, and our new car.  I had my doula training course - a whole weekend out of the house, away from my family, learning and getting on with my career.  The business side of my blog picked up and I continued writing articles for two local websites, I hosted my first giveaway and received my first batch of toys from a toy rental company I am reviewing.  We had our first snow of the season.

DECEMBER

December was full of Christmas stuff: visiting Santa, a trip to the US to pick up things we ordered online, getting everything ready.  We had the worst stomach flu and were out of commission for about a week.  I took a picture every hour on the hour for 12-12-12 along with lots of other people.  Baby K and I went to Calgary for a weekend to see my family.  We had a huge snowfall right before Christmas so we had a pretty white Christmas. I enjoyed a bit of time off blogging but came back with a list of all the books I read this year and coming up with this recap was fun.  My mind has been wandering to goals for the new year, thinking of things I can do.

That was a great year!

In case you're interested, here's my recap of 2011.

  1. Wow what a fun and eventful year you have had! I love this idea of a sumary at the end of the year. A great way to look back on years past too
