Butterflies | The Life of K: Butterflies

Thursday, October 4, 2012

Yesterday we went to the butterfly show.  It's put on by Carleton University every year and goes until Monday.  Here's the website for more information: Annual Biology Butterfly Show.

I knew I'd need some help with two toddlers so my neighbour came with his daughter A, Little J's best friend.  Two adults for three kids sounded better than me with my two.  And it turned out okay.

We were lucky in that it wasn't super busy when we were there.  The kids were able to move around in the greenhouse.

Another kid gave Little J an orange with a butterfly on it but this butterfly had a tear in its wing and couldn't fly.  It kept falling off the orange and once fell onto Little J's finger and he freaked right out.  That really affected Baby K and we had to leave soon after.

In the lobby is a giant picture of a butterfly and a poster of all the different kinds.  I managed to get a shot of Little J in front of the big butterfly, but Baby K wasn't happy and wouldn't cooperate.

And for fun, here's a family shot this year and then the one I took last year.

You can read up on our last year's adventure if you'd like (last year's post.)

It was nice to get out of the greenhouse and outside in the fresh air.  I can't believe I had forgotten just hot hot and humid it was in there.  We explored a teepee set up near the greenhouse and went down by the water.  The kids seemed happy to run around and the weather was just beautiful.

If you get a chance, go and check out the butterflies.  It's free and fun.  And if you don't have kids, go and take your fancy camera.  These are exotic butterflies flown in specifically for the event.  Definitely worth checking out.
