A running update

Well! It's time for a little update on my training. My 5K race is coming up in about 2 and a half weeks, I'm half way through week 7 of my training and I'm feeling pretty good.

This Couch-to-5K program I'm following, an app I downloaded called C25K Free, started off so slow. I think I could have used a "walking to 5K" or something instead. But, I kept with it, only dropping the 5 minute warm up and 5 minute cool down and focusing on the running part of it. That shaved 10 minutes from every workout, key for when I'm sneaking away from my family.

I just looked back and tonight was only my 10th run. If I'd done the program correctly, it would have been my 20th. So, obviously I haven't been going out as often as I should. I'm taking a lazy approach but also enjoying my summer. I don't feel one bit bad.

When I went to sneak away yesterday, Little J caught me. He wanted to come with me. We don't have a jogging stroller. I said he could come and was he ever excited!

He insisted on wearing a headband like me and holding my hand the entire time. My heart is melting just thinking about it. He's so damn cute.

And he did great! We jogged about a kilometer, Little J stopping 3 times to drink some water. Then he told me his tummy hurt so we turned around and walked home.

And when we got home, he ran to tell his dad about how he ran with mommy, how we ran to his school, and how he had to stretch so he wouldn't get sore. I think one day he'll make an excellent running partner.

As for my training, I'm building up to running 30 minutes straight and hopefully covering 5K in that time. I've done it before and I'm sure I can do it again, though I'm not so worried about my time, more just that I'm getting out there, being active and doing something for myself.
