Running - Week 3 Run 1, kinda

Last night I ran for the second time. My first run was almost two weeks ago and was the first run in the couch-to-5K program that I'm following. Week 1 Run 1 was pretty easy and I was only sore because I wasn't able to stretch afterwards.

I got my ear infections the same night as my run and hadn't laced up my shoes since. Last night I decided to go for it and do the Week 3 Run 1, as if I hadn't missed any runs in between. It was okay.

For those of you interested, I found a free app for a couch-to-5K program. I decided to follow a program and use a slow approach so that I wasn't in charge of how far and how long I ran and hopefully I wouldn't get hurt. I have to say, having someone tell me when to run and when to walk is very liberating. It isn't so much a mindgame - I'll run until that street light... I'll start running again at that car up there - as a mindless half an hour on the pavement.

Last night I covered 3.4K. There was a 5-minute warm up walk, a 90-second run + 90-second walk AND 3-minute run + 3-minute walk TWICE, and a 5 minute cool down walk. That's a lot of walking to me.

I'm not used to walking to warm up and would much rather just get on with it, but I'm sticking to the program and doing what the nice lady tells me to do. And hopefully by the end of next month when my race comes along, I'll be able to get a decent time and be pain free. At least that's the plan.


  1. Funny, I'm using the same app and I love it. I've been at it two weeks now and I just completed the same run, Week 3 Run 1.

  2. Okay, I'm totally jealous of the distance you're covering. On my Week 3 Run 2, I covered about 1.6 miles. Ugh.
