Wordless{ish} Wednesday - Our garden

I wanted a veggie garden this year, partly for the veggies but partly for the kids. To show them how food grows. I never imagined how good it would feel eating something that we grew.

We started out with a plan: the perfect spot beside the deck, some dirt and some wood. J worked his magic and, with help from the kids, built the garden.

Putting the dirt in

Because of our late start and lack of foresight, we didn't start our plants from seed but instead bought plants and put those in the garden.

We have cucumber, cherry tomato, green and orange bell peppers, sweet banana peppers, hot peppers, chives (from the neighbours), zucchini (from my parents), and a mystery plant (J is withholding this information).

As you can see, everything is growing extremely well and soon we will have more tomatoes and peppers than we know what to do with.

We're still working on getting the kids to not pick green tomatoes but other than that it's going really well. In not too long we'll be drowning in tomatoes and peppers for sure. I'm really glad we have our little garden.

  3. That's awesome! We started small this year, with one upside down cherry tomato plant. The first tomato is slowly turning red, and it's very exciting! lol! Having the plant hanging upside down and off the ground has taken care of little fingers picking the green tomatoes ;)
