Cheated somehow

Thinking about it now I realize that it all makes sense, but it took me a while to figure out why I felt so off with all this warm weather we've been having. It's half way through March, normally a time when we get a taste of spring with a few warmish days but when it also snows. Like winter wants us to not get too comfortable with our short sleeves and our sandals.

It's been a week of super warm weather now and I feel strange. My front hall is a mess of winter coats and boots and light coats and sandals and everything in between. Just over a week ago I put on my winter coat and a toque for a walk with the kids and this week I've been sweating in capris and a tee shirt. I haven't had to wear socks and shoes for over a week and I couldn't be any happier about that.

But I miss the transition. The cooler days, days when spring is in the air. Not summer. Spring. Days of mud and muck and cool mornings and warmer afternoons. Longer days when the snow is melting and the sun feels warm. Days when I'm sure dressing my kids in pants and long sleeves will be fine because I can just take the sweater off if they get too warm.

This year the snow is completely gone and we're outside sweating our buns off. We've had to scramble to find summer gear - sandals and shorts and short sleeve tees and sunscreen. Yes, my white white kids need sunscreen already.

It's not only me that seems off, the kids are both irritable and exhausted at the end of the day. Playing outside is tiring. If you can trust the forecast, we're supposed to get cooler weather next week. Maybe we'll have a spring after all. Spring will make me appreciate summer even more. That and it will give me a chance to find clothes that fit and make sure we have sunscreen and hats for the kids. Apparently I need all 4 seasons to feel content.

  1. I would trade these days for those ... any day.
It's so chilly here, still. My bones are cold.

  2. I feel you. but in reverse. It was maybe a degree below 0 yesterday. Forecast for today was -2.0. Actual temp this morning? -20. Yeah, I miss that decimal. We WERE getting spring for a minute there...
