It's a new year

It's a new year. Time for making resolutions and breaking them.

For New Year's Eve we taught Little J to say "Happy New Year's!" and celebrated right before bedtime at 8pm. Although we stayed up, J and I didn't make it to midnight either.

We had brunch New Year's Day with S&L and A&S. It was really nice seeing our four little ones playing together.

After that Little J and Baby K fell asleep in the car so we had a long drive before going to J's parent's place for dinner. It was one of the best dinners I've had in a long time.

Monday I had brunch with my baseball girls. I look forward to seeing them and love the crepes that J and M make. It was warm out and Little J and J had a great time playing outside. Little J is loving having his dad home.

I don't make new year's resolutions really, but I do take some time to think about how the last year went and what I want to do with the next 12 months. Last year really was focused on Baby K. She literally could not arrive quickly enough and started her life a celebrity by being born at home with only me and J there. Well, Little J was sleeping in his crib, not that he would have been much help had he been awake.

She has grown from that squirmy baby to a toddler. Little J has also grown - he runs and jumps and speaks so well. He is strong willed and very opinionated but shy when meeting people for the first time. He has been home with me and Baby K since May and absolutely loves his baby sister.

The three of us will be home together for the next 5 years, but more on that later.

So this year I want to shift our focus from the new little baby to our entire family. I want to find out who I am, rediscover what I like to do. I want to exercise more and spend more time alone. I want to get better at cooking and cleaning (constant works-in-progress) and figure out fun and exciting things to do with the kids. I want to work on our house so it feels more like a home and have people over more often, for dinner or just for fun.

Are those goals too lofty? I guess we'll see when 2013 comes around. Here's to a great year!
