September | The Life of K: September

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

I was reading all sorts of posts about back to school and fall weather and pumpkin spice lattes thinking, what the heck are these people talking about? Summer just started. Well, it's September. Hello, September, when did you get here? A few days ago? Well then.

Maybe because I'm not gearing up to go back to school or work and the weather hasn't been that cold.. I don't know, but September certainly surprised me. This is the first time that I haven't even thought of going back to school. I guess it's been long enough - my last school year started in 2003 - that it's finally off my mind. I'm not bombarded by the media and the stores since I don't watch tv or go out very often to see all the pens and notebooks and school bags.

I used to love getting new school supplies. Call me a nerd if you want because I certainly was one, but there's something so nice about the fresh start that a new school year offers. When is my fresh start?

I guess I get little starts and stops year round. Like when J takes vacation or we get a super long weekend. It's nowhere near the same. I think we need a trip. Yep, that's what we need, to get away from the day-to-day and when we get home it'll be like a fresh start, but really just back to our regular routine.

What do you do now that you're not in school or are you still plugging away at your degree? A teacher? You'd get the back to school rush your whole childhood and all your working years.

Oh right, I'll get the rush too when my kids are old enough for school. That seems far away.

Like in Green Day's song, wake me up when September ends.

  1. I LOVED getting new school supplies and I was kind of bummed that the primary kids had set supplies from the school so I have to wait until 1st grade to buy then again for Ethan!
