4 months

Baby K is a happy little baby. She has dark dark blue eyes that crinkle when she smiles and she smiles all the time. She also watches her brother all the time. Partially because she's curious about him and partially because, I'm sure, she's afraid of him. He tends to jump on her and push her and shove things in her mouth. I'm not kidding when I say that being the younger sibling is hazardous to ones health.

She has really taken an interest in her brother and her surroundings in general. She loves her dad and loves seeing the pretty baby in the mirror. She happily wiggles and smiles. She gets in this happy mood, normally between 6 and 7 in the morning, and coos sweetly while I struggle to keep my eyes open, wishing for just another 30 minutes of sleep.

She has lost the hair on the back of her head and still has three red patches - one on the back of her head, one on the back of her neck and one on her right eyelid. Her cradle cap is pretty intense and she scratches her it all the time.

Baby K is a happy little thing who smiles at everyone. She is quite happy to lie in her bouncer, sit in Bumbo, lie on the playmat with the dangle toys or jump in the jumperoo. She has started intentionally grabbing at things. You can see her little brain working away while she desperately tries to shove anything and everything in her mouth. This makes Little J giggle when he gets close enough and she grabs his hand. She also likes being pulled to sitting from lying down, something I remember Little J loving.

Baby K is still exclusively breastfed and I'm still proud of us for this. It's still sometimes annoying and often painful, but a playdate with the doula that did my placenta encapsulation next week will hopefully bring some answers or things to try. She eats 6 or 7 times a day.

Other than a few rough nights of multiple wakings, Baby K is sleeping from 8 or 9pm until 2, 3 or 4 am when she wakes to eat. And then she's up for the day between 6 and 7am. We've established a pretty solid routine but she still has trouble napping most days. I don't mind her having a big long nap when Little J naps, but it's obvious she's really tired most mornings. Apparently 4 months is about the time babies go from sleeping deeply all the time to sleeping with more adult-like cycles of light sleep and deep sleep. I'm not sure we've really noticed a difference with her yet.

Baby K is about 13 pounds and quickly growing out of her 0-3 month clothing. She's long and lean so even some 3-6 month stuff is short. Thankfully with hotter weather she'll be in sleepers less and onesies more so length won't be as much of an issue. She is still wearing size 1-2 disposables when not in cloth diapers. She'll have her 4-month appointment with shots in a few weeks.

I'm struggling with, well, everything. I'm sure to an outsider it looks like I have things figured out, but I don't feel like I do. I get through every day but I'm doing the bare minimum. I hardly have time for myself and often only get time for a quick shower before collapsing into bed only to do it all again the next day. My house is messy and I'm behind on organizing and printing pictures. There are so many things I want to do but can't find time to do them. I know it will get better. I just don't know when.
