The weekend including Mother's Day

We went to the first wedding of the year on Saturday. RK, the guy who is the reason J and I met, married SN at a fancy little restaurant on the canal. The ceremony was in the afternoon so J and I got ready and left as Little J was waking up from his nap. J's parents and sister were ready to take over parenting duties. Little J didn't notice we were gone but spent a while looking for his sister (BAYBEE!)

On the drive I kept saying how nice it felt to have a shower and blow dry my hair and put on fancy clothes. It's more work than my usual sweat pants, tank top and ponytail but it's nice every now and then.

We actually got there early and spent some time catching up with friends we hadn't seen in a long time (that's what having kids before all your friends will do). The ceremony was short and sweet and before we knew it we were heading to a pub for a pint of beer and some nachos before the reception.

The reception was fun - good food, good speeches, good music. Baby K was a trooper the entire time. Everyone kept commenting on how good she was. It's true: she didn't cry once and was generally awake and alert and smiling at people. She ate a few times and slept a few times, though did neither enough so was starving and exhausted by the time we got home.

Little J had had a good time with his grandparents (Papaw and Mimi) and his aunt SJ and was fast asleep by the time we got home. Baby K ate and then, by 11pm, we were all tucked in bed and asleep.

Today was Mother's Day. My second as a mother and first as a mother of two. I got the best gift ever: a good night's sleep. Baby K, exhausted from the wedding, slept from 11pm until 6:30am. I woke up a few times and checked to make sure she was still breathing and felt completely refreshed when she finally woke up. Even with all that sleep, I still slept when she did for another few hours right after eating. It was amazing.

Because of all my sleeping I missed going to Little J's gymnastics class this morning, but J reported that it went well until right near the end. Little J loves gymnastics and is loving jumping and running around more at home. Thankfully the weather was good this weekend and he could spend lots of time running around outside because that kind of play inside is dangerous.

Jumping in his crib though is pretty safe. That's what Little J did today instead of napping. After all sorts of running around jumping the poor guy was exhausted and fell asleep in the car on the way to J's grandparent's house. Both babies were asleep in the backseat for a while after we got there. Little J finally woke up but was a handful at dinner. Baby K stayed asleep, I actually had to wake her up after dinner because I knew she'd be starving.

It was an interesting dinner and a later night than we're used to, but now we're home and winding down. Tomorrow is J's day off so we'll be checking out some double strollers. This is Little J's last week of daycare so we'll be needing a double stroller. Shopping!

Hope you all had a great weekend. Congratulations to RK and SN and happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there!
