Two Months

_MG_3416.CR2 (Medium)

Baby K's second month was a little hectic. The poor thing has been sick the whole time. She's been sneezing and coughing and recently moved on to vomiting and diarrhea. She's hoarse from the crying and screaming and sounds so pathetic. It's really sad. Lots of long steamy showers to clear her out and late night cleanups. If she was my first baby we would have taken her to the doctor by now, but she's still interested in eating and doesn't have a fever. It'll be nice when she's healthy.

Even being sick, the little lady has found time to work on her smiles and coos. She spends more and more time awake and alert during the day and has recently discovered a love of sucking on her hands. She has no interest in a soother but I wouldn't be surprised if she starts sucking her thumb. The baby acne she got last month all over her face, neck and chest that cleared up just last week. Then the cradle cap came. Baby J still has it a little so I'm not too hopeful that Baby K's will come and go quickly though that would be nice.

Baby K absolutely loves her mobile and will happily lie staring at it for a long time. As long as Baby J doesn't throw something at her. Speaking of Baby J, he still loves his baby sister and wants to hug her and kiss her, but most often he wants to pick her up. I'm not sure what he thinks he'd do with her, but I'm guessing, if he could, he'd carry her around while he goes all over, from toys to books to blocks to tv.

We're giving cloth diapering a try because I recently had an epiphany about it: cloth diapering doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing deal. It's less overwhelming when you think of it like that. So we're doing a two-week trial. Baby K looks adorable and hilarious with a big bubble butt from the bulky diapers (one size diapers would fit Baby J too). With her being sick we went back to disposables but will try the cloth again before the end of the trial.

DEVELOPMENT
Baby K hates being on her back so she will roll onto her side if you put her on her back. If she's on our bed, which is cushy because of our mattress topper, she can roll onto her stomach. She's really good at holding her head up and loves to stand. This month she started cooing and smiling. Those gummy baby smiles are so cute.

EATING
Baby K is still breastfeeding well. We overcame the issue we had last month where she was gulping air and was really uncomfortable with all the resulting gas. I've pumped a few time and we're working on getting her to take a bottle. That will give me some freedom.

SLEEPING
Baby K is spending more time awake and alert during the day but still doesn't have a schedule to speak of. Her night time sleep seems to be solidifying into a big stretch and two smaller ones. Some nights the big stretch was 6 or 7 hours. Those nights were amazing. During the day she tends to sleep after eating which is something I'll be trying to stop soon. As with Baby J, I'm going to try and do the EASY method (Eat, Activity, Sleep, You), but for now we're just going with it. At night she sleeps in a bouncer in our room. The bouncer keeps her more upright which helps with the congestion. During the day she sleeps on the nursing pillow, on someone or in the car or the wrap.

STATS
Baby K has not grown much this month. At 1 month she weighed 9 pounds 5 ounces and at her appointment today she weighed 10 pounds 3 ounces. She's almost 23 inches long so tall and skinny, which is exactly how Baby J was. When I look back at Baby J's stats, Baby K weighs the same but is longer than he was at 2 months so she's gaining much slower than he did. Baby K is wearing size 1-2 diapers (Costco doesn't sell size 1s or 2s but she'd likely be in size 1s if they did) and has grown out of most of her newborn sleepers. The 0-3 month sleepers are still mostly too big and will likely always be too wide.

ME
I'm looking forward to longer stretches of sleep at night. My memory is bad normally but with interrupted sleep it's downright horrible. I'm also looking forward to fitting more exercise into my day. I think I'll be moving from survival mode where I take every day as it comes to more of an I've-got-this mode. Wishful thinking?

  1. She is so cute! I think her and Baby J look so similar. Hopefully next month is a little less hectic and everyone stays healthy!
