This and That

A random post because things are happening and I can't find time to update more often.

Baby J is sick again. This time it's a cold: started with a cough and now he's congested. Daycare was closed Wednesday so he was home and we half expected a call Thursday or Friday to pick him up but he lasted both days.

We're doing a two-week trial of cloth diapers from a local baby boutique. I was always overwhelmed by the thought of cloth diapering (and J was grossed out) until I realized that it didn't have to be an all-or-nothing thing. We can get some cloth diapers and use them when it's most convenient and use disposables when it's not.

Last weekend Baby K and I left the boys at home and went to a brunch with my baseball team. It was nice to see the girls and nice to get out of the house with just Baby K. It's weird though - the night before I was pretty worried about how it would go. I'm not used to worrying about things like going to see friends. Who am I?

Because daycare was closed Wednesday, we were looking for things to do with Baby J during the day. His little buddy R's daycare was closed too so L and Baby R came over in the morning. It's so interesting watching the two boys play together. They've known each other their whole lives and have recently started playing together. It's not always fun and games, lots of grabbing for the same toy and yelling, but it was so cute watching them at lunch when they were both in their high chairs. They were smiling at each other and playing peekaboo.

This past week we've had some really good nights where both babies slept well. Baby K has been sleeping 6- or 7-hour stretches. When she wakes up both J and I feel like we could start our day even though it's 4:30am. That much uninterrupted sleep is incredible. All good things come to an end though when your baby gets sick and is up often during the night and pukes on herself, you and your bed. We're not sleeping like babies yet, but the few nights that she did was a glimpse into our future.

This was J's last week off work. When J went back to work after we had Jeremy, I was a little panicked at the thought of being on my own with a wee baby. This time I'm kind of excited. Baby K and I will get into a groove. A groove that will be disrupted in another few weeks when Baby J is done daycare, but a groove nonetheless. I will savour every day with just my little Baby K.

Baby K is sick. I guess that happens when you have a germy older brother running around, but the poor thing has been sneezing and coughing and now is pooping lots (newborn poop is a lot like diarrhea so it's hard to tell if there's an issue there) and puking. I would be really concerned except she's still interested in eating and is happy and smiling when she isn't sleeping or screaming. Babies are such mysteries though and hopefully the doctor can tell us if there is anything we should be doing for her.

Both Baby K and Baby J have doctor appointments this week. Baby K is seeing the doctor for the first time for her 2-month appointment and shots. Whether she'll get her shots I'm not sure. Baby J has his 18-month appointment and shots. I'm not sure whether he's healthy enough for shots either, but we'll take him in and see. I am not looking forward to the screaming.

I've been thinking lately about exercising and how I really want to get my body moving. I don't think I look pregnant exactly, but I am definitely more flabby than I'd like. I was lucky and didn't gain a lot of weight during my pregnancy and lost half of it right away, but I still have about 10 pounds to lose. The problem is finding the time. Any spare time I have these days I spend reading blog posts or sleeping, you know, the essentials.

Speaking of spare time, that's about all I've got. From my snotty house to yours.

  1. We've got some colds here too...and a few ear infections. Fun times! I've still got 10lbs left to lose and Clara is pushing 9 months, so I think you're doing great!
