Me, 2 weeks later

Here we are, life with a newborn all over again. That isn't the only change around here, my body is completely different.

I look at pregnancy as a sort of science experiment. It's neat to see how your body changes when it's growing another person, how the skin and muscles stretch to accommodate the little body inside, how your focus changes from you to this little person.

And in a matter of hours, everything changes. Suddenly, quite suddenly in my case, this little person is on the outside and needs to be cared for in a different way. No longer is my baby with me wherever I go without me having to think about it, no longer is my body providing nourishment to the baby constantly and consistently. Now I have to provide warmth and food externally and the baby has to learn to breathe and eat and sleep in a completely different environment. When you actually think about it, it's pretty incredible.

My little science experiment, my body, is also incredible. I had a relatively easy pregnancy, free from any major complaints, and a relatively easy delivery. My recovery was almost instant and I was up walking around hours after giving birth and feeling fantastic. Over the pregnancy, I gained 26 pounds which is 12 less than with Baby J, though I started at a higher weight this time. I only had a chance to weigh myself 11 days after giving birth and have another 11 pounds to lose to be back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm guessing my body will be happy there, but another 5 pounds isn't unreasonable.

I was very fortunate with my skin and didn't get a single stretch mark either pregnancy and my stomach is still jiggly right now, but actually looks pretty good. Overall I'm quite pleased with my body and what it is capable of doing. I pushed it by having two pregnancies close together and it rose to the occasion, performing much better than I hoped. J says my super power is having babies. After my little experiment, I might have to agree.

  1. lucky girl! I still have 11lbs to lose and C is 7 months old! BUT I did gain 52lbs, haha! Oh well, that's wonderful that you've bounced back so quickly. Good job!
