Music | The Life of K: Music

I've had to start listening to music as I fall asleep again. It started when I went to university - my roommate would always pop in a Counting Crows album and we'd fall asleep. Since then I listened to one of their CDs every single night as I was falling asleep. Seriously, I had to have my Crows.

I stopped when Baby J was born because hearing my baby cry while he was on the other side of the (admittedly not huge) house was more important to me than my tunes, plus I was a zombie and could fall asleep anytime anywhere.

It's been almost a year and a half since he was born but I never got back into the habit. Partially so I could still hear him (J sleeps with headphones and even without them doesn't wake up reliably) and more recently because Baby J plays with the CDs and CD player.

But lately I NEEDED music again. Let me tell you why in one word: DORA. Those catchy but super annoying songs run through my head when I'm trying to fall asleep. Especially if I've fallen asleep while reading and woken up to go to the bathroom or because J's come to bed and I can't handle it! So I pulled out my trusty old iPod mini which thankfully had an album on it and now use it when I'm falling asleep.

Do you listen to music to fall asleep? Read a book? Tell me.

  1. When I was a kid well into high school I used to listen to music every night falling asleep. I think it was the crash test dummies "god shuffled his feet". Then in university while I was on a co-op my roomie and I would listed to david grey every night, to drown out Fallin' by Alicia keys which was on the radio 24/7. She was our Dora. Now, i try to read, if I can. If I'm tellin the truth, we're watching Twin Peaks every night before bed!

  2. Hmm, I do read every night to clear my head before bed, but I've been using a humidifier for white noise. Music is a good idea too. I should give it a try!
