12 months = one year!

I don't know about you, but I really can't believe that my little man is a year old today. I haven't thought about it so much but this time last year he had just popped into the world and we were getting to know him. Listening to his cries and wearing goofy grins. We really didn't know what we were doing.

We still don't.

That's the secret to parenting: you don't know what you're doing. Hand me a little baby and I don't know what to do. And this is after having my own. Show me a two year old and I don't know what to do. All I know is my little guy and even then I'm at a loss when he throws me a curve ball.

The other secret to parenting is that anyone can do it. If I can do it, anyone can.

Back to Baby J. My little one year old. This truly is birthday week with multiple celebrations. We celebrated with my family this past Sunday. It was nice to see everyone and have Baby J surrounded by balloons, which he loved, and try cake for the first time. He was absolutely spoiled and came home with many goodies.

Yesterday, the daycare had a little party for him and another little girl. They had cake and Baby J got to wear a crown and he came home with a card and a present. We have the best daycare provider.

Today - his actual birthday - we gave him a cupcake after dinner. It was the tamest birthday cake smash I've ever seen. He slowly picked it up and then poked it a little. He licked it and finally took a bite. He definitely likes balloons better than cake.

This Saturday we're having some of Baby J's little friends over. I'm looking forward to seeing him play with his friends and catching up with our friends. Nothing fancy, but a nice little get together for my little man.

In the past month, Baby J has learned a few new things. He can finally say the mmm sound so he's close to saying mama. He can now stand up without pulling up on something so he crawls much less and he just just started walking backwards. It's interesting because I don't think he gets it yet.. he'll be standing and all of a sudden he starts moving backwards. I think it surprised him as much as it surprised us. He'll also let you put on his sunglasses for him and he'll keep them on for a couple minutes. That took months.

He discovered tennis balls and loves to chase one around the driveway. He rushes over to it and bends over to pick it up. Sometimes it'll roll past him or through his legs. It's funny. Now he has some in the house and he'll throw them and run after them. He's getting better at sorting blocks and can put more than just the circle in the circle hole.

In Baby J's 11th month, we went to two weddings and the cottage. He had his first campfire and pooped on J's parent's boat. He started wearing shoes because he's walking more outside. He had his 7th tooth pop through and the 8th is coming soon.

He has his shots tomorrow and I'll find out his weight and height though I'm guessing he's 20 pounds and 30 inches. Not a huge baby but a fun one. Happy birthday, Baby J!
