10 months

Baby J is ten months old. It seems old but I think that's because I go back to work in a week and so he goes to daycare. It's going to be weird not being with my little man every day. And the little stinker hasn't learned how to walk yet. I'm really hoping he can figure it out in the next week so I get to witness it.

This month Baby J learned how to stand unassisted. He doesn't do it all that often but when he does it can be for half a minute at a time. Probably longer if he didn't keep dropping the toy he was holding and bending down to get it. It's so strange seeing someone so small standing there all by himself. He is walking behind his truck and along the couches more and more but still prefers crawling for speed. He can now crawl with toys (remotes, tubes of butt cream, his brush) in his hands.

We went to the family cottage twice this month. The second time went better than the first. It was warmer and Baby J slept better. He seemed to like the water and the pontoon boat is perfect for my little roaming man. It's like a big baby jail so I can sit in the sun and not worry about him drowning or eating sand. Only thing is that once we leave the dock, he has to wear his life jacket and he doesn't seem to like it very much.

I'm proud to say that I accomplished my goal of getting Baby J to eat more solids. I can't really tell if he's eating less formula, but I know the kid can pack away the arrowroot and goldfish crackers and absolutely loves fruit. He's mostly given up on veggies but I think it's partially because of the newness of carbs and fruit. We'll keep offering him lots of different things. He's getting better at drinking water and is semi-pro at using a sports water bottle. I'm going back to the sippy cup because that's what the daycare provider prefers.

Napping has been interesting as of late. He used to nap three times a day and sleep from 9 or 10pm to 8am. Now he naps once or twice during the day and sleeps from 8pm-7am. When he naps once he's mega cranky at night. So quick to cry at the smallest bumps. The fact that he's awake more during the day is probably what led to eating more food. Oh, and he started signing MORE which made me so happy. He doesn't do it properly, but he does it. And he understands the sign for WATER. Very fun.

Just last week Baby J got a nasty cold from the neighbour's kid. And just when we didn't think it could get any worse, his top two teeth busted through the gums. Poor guy was a slobbering snotty mess. The cold passed and now he's grinding his teeth. Amazing the nastiness of that sound even though the top teeth are barely there.

The newest things he does are opening drawers and climbing. We're going to have to re-baby-proof a lot of the house once he's consistently able to open all kinds of drawers and climb up on the couches. For now it doesn't happen often so we should have a little bit before he's in to absolutely everything.

Diaper changes are an absolute disaster these days. I took the change table and put it on the floor in his room because he is constantly flipping himself over, often when his diaper has been taken off. I can't count the number of times I've had to put the diaper on him while he's standing up. It makes for interesting diaper changes.

And for some stats because I forgot to do this last month. Baby J is wearing mostly 6-9 month clothing, though some 3-6 month onesies still fit and some shorts are 12 months. He is wearing size 4 shoes and size 3 diapers. He'll get weighed and measured at his one year appointment.

My little man is quickly growing up. Time is marching non-stop towards his first birthday. Probably some big changes in the next two months with starting day care and hopefully walking.

  1. Wow can't believe it's time for you to be going back to work already!! My kids aren't big veggie fans but love fruit...my doctor actually said at this age not to be too concerned aslong as they are eating from all food groups...so fruit is good! Also I started giving my kids the V8 fruit juice so they get some veggies in that. I cut it with water though but still it's a serving!

  2. I just clicked back to read this cause it's the same age as my little J is now - and they are so, so similar! Standing, teeth grinding, going into cupboards - the CHANGE TABLE! It's identical! So funny.
Although our guy is a bruiser, just over 20lbs.
