Earthquake!

Wednesday afternoon I was in the basement with Baby J. The Good Guys was on tv and we were playing with some blocks. Then a truck went by and shook the house.

Only the house didn't stop shaking.

Earthquake!

I paused the tv and grabbed the baby and went upstairs. I stood for a few seconds in the doorway to the basement, racking my brain for what to do during an earthquake. The rumbling was really loud at this point.

I decided the safest place for us was outside. Apparently I wasn't the only one with that thought in mind. All up and down my street were moms with babies, looking confused and worried.

Three of my neighbours gathered on my front lawn to talk about the earthquake. S next door had the phone in his hand and answered multiple calls making sure he and the baby were okay.

When I went back inside, I had all sorts of missed calls. I called my mom back and got through but couldn't get through to J. Turns out he was sent home from work.

We had an impromptu afternoon together.

This is only the second earthquake I remember and definitely the first that make me shake. Keeping my baby safe was my priority. Poor cat didn't get a single thought until much later (she was fine).

Anyone else feel it? It's being reported as a 5.0 on the Richter scale, localized in Quebec and apparently was felt all the way to Windsor, Ontario and well into the US. Definitely the talk of the town.

  1. Craziness, not sure if I would have really known what to do either!

  2. We had some serious rumblings out our way as well. The weirdest sensation for me was the mild vibration that continued for a long period after the big shake happened - made my legs feel like jelly. I wasn't sure if it was an earthquake so I went to twitter.com: 20k+ people all saying 'did we just have an earthquake?'

    Confirmed by social media!

Glad you guys and kitty are ok - our cat was seriously freaked out!
