Magazine change

My mom and I have a nice little system when it comes to reading material - we share. As soon as I moved out of my parent's house, they made my room into "the library". No kidding, shelving covers the two usable walls, and there are books everywhere.

My mom normally buys her books at a consignment shop or from the sale bins. She also subscribes to several magazines.

I don't buy books or subscribe to magazines or newspapers. I prefer to borrow my books and get my news for free, though I do get Reader's Digest magazines from a gift subscription.

Every time I see my parents, I hand over my copies of Reader's Digest and in return I get a pile of books and copies of Chatelaine.

The May issue of Chatelaine was the best one I've ever read. I found so many of the articles interesting and informative and inspiring. Hope on the horizon was one story that made me want to do something. It talks about the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and what's going on there, specifically the violence towards women.

I don't know if it's because I'm a mom or what, but this story hit me. How are these horrible things happening and what can I do? At the end of article, three suggestions are made, one of them is super easy so I did it. I went online and I donated all of my Aeroplan miles to Doctors Without Borders. I had almost 9000 miles, which isn't so many, but I'm hoping that my donation helps a little bit. And I hope that some of that help goes to the women of the DRC.

If you have Aeroplan Miles, please consider donating them. It won't cost you anything, and if you're anything like me, you won't ever use them anyways.
