Goals vs. Resolutions

I'm not the resolutions type person. I prefer to think of things that I would like to do, not really things I'd like to change. Sure, I'd like to weigh a little less, I'd like to eat a little healthier and be a little nicer, but resolving to change things just because the calendar hits January 1st seems a little silly to me.

It is the new year, the beginning of a new calendar, but it really is just another day. Another year. Another calendar. The older I get, the more the days fly by and the less I want to spend on calendars. Electronic calendars help with that, but that's not what I want to talk about.

I want to talk about my goals. Doesn't everybody have a goal or two? I do. I have short term and long term goals and goals in between. Last year I made a list of 8 or 9 or so goals. I accomplished all but one of them and the reason I didn't get that last one was the crappy weather we had this summer. My excuse. Excuses go hand in hand with goals and resolutions alike. Even without that excuse, I accomplished almost everything I set out to do. Not bad.

This year? This year I have a bunch again. Eight I think, though some of them are personal so I won't be sharing them here. But I would like to say that one goal of mine is to comment more often on other blogs. Blogging is something people do because they want to, unless it's a source of income and then it's your job, but most blogs I read are personal ones and I want to let people know I'm reading. It's almost entirely selfish of me. By commenting, I hope to keep the blogger blogging and to let them know that I'm reading. Sometimes as a blogger you wonder who, other than you, is reading your words.

That said, feel free to comment on my blog. I love hearing what you have to say, believe me. Tell me your goals or resolutions or that you loved this post or that you hated it. I want to know.

  1. Ohhhh my goodness you totally guilted me into blogging today. I've got three 'drafted' posts in my Wordpress account and I just haven't finished and hit 'post'. I think sometimes I bite off more htan I can chew per post.. I get overwhelmed.. and sign out. Story of my life!

I like your posts though and I do read them. :)

  2. I read EVERY ONE of your blog posts :)

I'm the same as you: I tend to make lists rather than resolutions. Last year my list had 9 items and I completed 4 ... which I don't think is that bad for a start. This year my list has 10 items (9 in 2009, 10 in 2010 ... see a trend here?), all of which I am pretty optimistic about completing.

Good luck with your list! :)

  3. I really enjoy your blog. :-) it's a great forum for reviewing my friend's life and getting her written perspective on things.

Goals for me: Spend money on nicer clothes, learn to drive stick well, go on a weekend away to wine country.

Hey there! I'm out here too.

Resolution-wise, the only real one I have is that I want to run a 5K this year. It's been awhile, but I think I can pull it off.

  5. Shelley - I meant no guilt but I did enjoy your new posts :)

T - I'm glad there's someone else who doesn't do the typical resolution thing.

L - Spend money on nicer clothes is on my list too. Funny the things that change after being limited to maternity clothing only.

Sue - You can do eet!
