Tricky stuff

I'm not a nervous parent. Thankfully neither is J. We're pretty laid back and easy going. But parenting isn't easy. It's hard work and it's exhausting and terrifying. It's especially hard when your baby is sick or hurt.

J and I won't be winning any awards for our parenting over Christmas. We were so worried that Baby J wasn't going to sleep enough and we were so pleased with ourselves when he did. Well, he slept more than we thought he would but probably not enough still. Sleeping baby trumped diaper changes and now the consequences of that are haunting us.

The poor thing has diaper rash like you would not believe. He's in a lot of pain and it sucks.

One of the things to do for diaper rash is to let air at the area. That's right, leaving the diaper off the baby is recommended. Do you know what happens when you leave a baby sans diaper? He pees. And pees. And poops. And pees. Believe me, we're tons of fun around here.

All I want is my baby to be better. We've learned our lesson and won't repeat that parenting fail. Promise.

  1. Ah, Baby Communication FAIL.

Do you lay Baby J in the tub during his open air time? How do you contain the pee and poo?

  2. This is going to sound crazy but my doctor told me to put some sort of zinc oxide cream on after every diaper change AND a yeast infection cream on once or twice a day (like canesten, you can get a small tube of that on it's own rather than a kit) and I swear within a day or two Karington's rashes would clear right up...same with Ethan.

  3. L, no, J just had lots of older receiving blankets around. It was a complete gamble. I would have had him on a tarp or something!

S, I might try that because this is the worst rash ever. It looks like a bad burn. Thanks for the tip!

  4. We used to use a zinc oxide cream that was really thick and gooey but did the trick. Anne would remember the name of it, but it escapes me at the moment. All I know is that it was like miracle cream for red bums.

    ????Zincofax????? Something like that....

  5. Doctor said Canesten and zinc oxide cream. S and Sue - you were both right!
