3 Whole Months

I can't believe it's been three months since Baby J was born. Three months seems like such a long time but the days have flown by. Not all that surprising really, but man, I no longer have a newborn baby. I have an infant. A put-everything-in-his-mouth, drool everywhere, smiling and giggling infant.

Today not only marks my baby's first day of his fourth month, it's also his last day getting breastmilk. Of the changes we decided on a couple of weeks back, switching from breastmilk to formula was by far the biggest decision and I'm still questioning it from time to time. No going back now! For the past two weeks I've been decreasing my milk supply (faster than I expected actually) and slowly using up the stores of milk I had in the freezer.

Today was the day I pulled out the last frozen bag and fed that to the kid. It was a little bittersweet - the moment not the milk - because, like I said, I'm still not one hundred percent sure I made the right decision. Either way, three months of liquid gold is still three months of liquid gold. I think we will all be happier from now on.

But let's talk about the baby. He's probably almost 13 pounds now, almost double his birth weight. He's smiling and laughing and talking up a storm. He loves the head and shoulders song and having his legs bicycled. He holds his head up when he's on his stomach and can stand pretty well with some assistance. He rolled from his tummy to his back just last week and he knows his hands are attached to his body and is learning to hold the bottle when he's eating. You can see him getting smarter every day. And every day he turns a little less baby and a little more boyish.

Here's to you, my little man!

  1. Way to go K! The changes sound totally astonishing. Standing!?

It must be comforting for him to know his hands are attached to his body. I guess before they were strange little satellites. :-)
